Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I park, and for how long?
Parking is available for up to 2 hours in the Library Parking Lot, located adjacent to the South Side of the Library building, on 7th street.

Can I use other library cards at the Pomona Public Library?
The Pomona Public Library is a municipal library, and is not a branch or member library of any other city or countywide system. Library cards from other libraries are not valid at the Pomona Public Library. However, library cardholders from member libraries of the Metropolitan Cooperative Library System (MCLS) have certain borrowing privileges at the Pomona Public Library. For more information, please inquire at the Circulation Desk, 909-620-2043

Can I connect on the Internet to the library's catalogue from home?
The Library's on-line catalog is available on the Internet at the following URL: http://www.pomonalibrary.org. Use the Library's on-line catalog to search for a book, or find out more information about the Library, including a calendar of events, hours of operation and information about each Library department.

When I connect to the Library's catalog from home, what else can I do besides search for a book?
Library card holders can examine their Library account to see if they owe any fines or fees, view a list of items that they have checked out and when they are due, as well as renew these items. Library cardholders can also place a "hold" on a book. [see below]

If an item is being used by another borrower, can I be placed on a waiting list to see it next?
Yes. For a 50 cent per item fee the Library can reserve a book for you when it is returned by the current borrower. You will be notified at home by mail or e-mail (if you've given us your address) when the book is returned. Hold requests can be made in person at the Library, or over the Internet through the Library's catalog. [see above]

Can your library help me borrow materials from another library?
Yes. Our Inter Library Loan Department can make these arrangements, for a nominal per item-fee of $2.00.

Can I search the Internet or do word processing at the Library?
Pomona Library Card holders may use workstations in the Library for this purpose for free. There are 22 workstations available in the Computer Lab, located on the Lower Level of the Library. Additional workstations are available in the Adult Reference Department and the Children's Room. The cost of printing from any workstation is 12 cents per page. Your work product can be read from or saved to floppy disc.

Do you have photocopy machines?
Black & white Copiers are available in the Adult Reference area, and in Special Collections. These cost 15 cents per page, using coins or bills, or 12 cents per page with a copy card. There is a color photocopier in the adults Reference area, which costs 60 cents per page. Exact change is required.

Do you loan entertainment or feature film videos?
The Library's video collection consists only of instructional and educational videotapes on a variety of subjects. Videos are loaned for a three-day period, and may be renewed only once. There is a 50 cents per day per item charge for overdue videos.

Can I listen to audiotapes at your library, or watch videotapes?
The Library does not have listening or viewing facilities.

How do I find magazine and newspaper articles at your library?
The library has both printed indexes and computerized databases to assist patrons in identifying and obtaining magazine articles. A variety of magazines and newspapers are available in the Library in their original paper format, as well as on microfilm, microfiche, and in electronic format. Librarians can assist you in the use of these materials. Library cardholders can also access our newspaper and magazine databases over the Internet at this URL: http://www.youseemore.com/pomona/databases.asp

I am unable to come to the library. Can you answer questions by phone or by e-mail.

Reference Librarians can briefly answer requests for factual information over the telephone, or consult the Library 's catalog to locate useful book titles. The staff however cannot give detailed answers to difficult or complicated questions by phone. Patrons are encouraged to come to the library for this level of assistance.
