Business Development Division Profile
Welcome to Business Development.
The Business Development Division was created in support of the City Council's expressed desire to bring new energy to the City's business development and redevelopment functions. The programs and services administered by the Business Development Division were created to assist the City Council in achieving its goal of increasing and intensifying the City's economic development efforts to attract new business to Pomona. These will provide a wider variety of retail and entertainment choices to our citizens, and result in an increase of sales tax revenues.
In concert with the City Council's economic development goals, the Business Development Division's goals are:
- To attract new and highly desirable businesses to the community
- To assist businesses experiencing growth with their expansion needs
- To assist in the efforts to retain existing local businesses requiring access to business resources
The Business Development Division sponsors a wide variety of services and programs designed to help businesses grow and prosper in Pomona. These services and programs help to foster business development both large and small.
Functions of the Business Development Division
The Business Development Division is responsible for providing business assistance and referrals to those looking to locate or expand their current business in Pomona. Business assistance takes many forms - it ranges from providing basic information to referral to the appropriate financial/governmental agencies (e.g. , Small Business Administration, Los Angeles Economic Development Corp and Pomona's Chamber of Commerce.
In support of the City's ongoing-efforts to promote a more business friendly environment, as well as to provide outstanding customer service. Business Development staff coordinates with other City departments by assisting businesses through the entitlement and permit process.
Public relations and marketing are corollary efforts of the BDD. Marketing includes advertising campaigns and promoting the business friendly environment and business assets of the City. Promotional vehicles include a newsletter, hosting workshops, grand openings, and events.
Additionally, Business Development administers filming and special event permits as required by the Pomona City Code. Both activities contribute to City revenue, but more importantly, they help to position the City of Pomona as a destination stop.
